Loving and Leaning in to Emotional Withdrawal in E.F.T.

jim in tallinI am excited to announce a new Master Class centered on emotional withdrawal.  This builds on the work of Dr. Sue Johnson, EFT colleagues, and lessons learned from couples in my office.  These training classes evolve organically.  My couples, both withdrawers and pursuers, start to offer particular feedback and deepen in to some aspect of the E.F.T. Couples Therapy experience.  As a therapist, I hear colleagues asking about the very same thing.  And then as a person, I find my own raw spots and signature themes that come up in this area.  Most recently, the focus has been working with emotional withdrawal (in both withdrawers, but in pursuers too).

The 2-Day Master Class is founded in Emotionally Focused Therapy and attending an externship is a prerequisite for attending (through any EFT Trainer or Center/Community).  We work with a presumption of basic knowledge of the model, attachment theory and the science of emotions learned in core skills; thus discussions will be at this advanced level.  We build from there, and hone in on a particular topic or issue.   Previous Center Master Classes with Jim, “Getting to Softenings” and “Beginnings” received high accolades and high scores on evaluations.

This workshop will start with an exploration of our own “inner withdrawer” and a deep reframing of the withdrawal response in humans, in the negative dance, and in all relationships.  We’ll look at some effective strategies for working with emotional withdrawers in Stage One and balancing that work with the pursuer’s needs.

Video clips will be a key component along with experiential activities and vibrant dialogue.
