Purpose of EFT Core Skills: To build on the knowledge gained in the EFT Externship, gain confidence in the model, increase our own emotional presence in the room, apply EFT interventions within the stages and steps of EFT, and move in to deeper community with other therapists learning EFT.
1) Develop the skills and habit of using E.F.T. Emotional Interventions routinely with couples and families.
2) Develop the skills and habit of using E.F.T. Emotional Interventions with couples and families.
3) Develop and apply an attachment lens as a therapist within E.F.T. model.
4) Access and deepen emotional experience in session, including our own emotional experience and presence, to foster appropriate, applicable emotional work in Stages One and Two of E.F.T.
5) Experience in role-play practice, discussion, video examples both Stage One work, and Stage Two intrapsychic work leading to bonding events, the key change event in E.F.T.
**Please note: Recording or taping either audio or audio/visual of training is strictly prohibited.**
The only exception is the taping of small group role-plays if agreeable to all participants in the role-play for the use of participant review only (not shared outside of the group participants) **
*Completion of an ICEEFT Approved EFT Externship is a prerequisite for attending CSP.
*Plus, participants will have read one of these two texts: “The Practice of Emotionally Focused Therapy,” “Creating Connections” or “Emotionally Focused Couples Therapy with Trauma Survivors”, both by Sue Johnson.
Videos: Everyone shows a 10 to 12 minute clip of their work with a couple or dyadic work with two family members as part of core skills. We begin this process on weekend three. We ask that you begin taping your couples work now to get comfortable with the process AND help you apply externship material and the core skills practice as we go along. We create a supportive, collaborative environment for viewing clips and feedback about this has been very positive.
*Also, participants must present own work through videotape presentation. Each participant will share one 10 to 12 minute video clip. The first videos shared with the group will occur on Weekend #2. Please Note: Transcription of this clip is required if the sound on the video is not clear and distinctly audible, thank you.
*Taping couples and/or family therapy sessions is also a requirement for participation. It is important for participants to begin taping their work however on or before the start of EFT Core Skills. There are innumerable benefits and gains from taping and reviewing one’s own work. EFT Supervision during EFT Core Skills between meeting is highly recommend (see Colorado EFT Supervisors).
*Active participation in co-creating a learning community in support of each participant with a respect for diversity and inclusion of all attendees is also a key part of this process including role-plays.

This EFT Core Skills training is endorsed by Dr. Sue Johnson and the International Centre for Excellence in E.F.T. and we adhere to the values of ICEEFT:
“We adhere to the philosophy that relationships are at the core of human experience. Research indicates that emotionally fulfilling relationships are integral components of mental and physical health, and that emotionally focused interventions have the power to establish and re-create supportive bonds among individuals. We are therefore dedicated to the understanding and enhancement of couple and family relationships through an emphasis on emotions and their interpersonal impact. We believe that all people can maximize their potential given a nurturing social environment, which we endeavor to foster in our work with clients.”
All Colorado Center for EFT Trainings are people affirmative and relationship affirmative. We honor people from all walks of life, faiths, gender, creed, ethnicity, culture, age, ability and experiences. We honor Gay and Lesbian relationships.
The Center is Gay Affirmative.
We believe that attachment theory and the science of love applies to GLBT people and relationships as well as heterosexual persons and relationships.
Trainers, supervisor and helpers at these events seek to be open, inclusive and respectful in our interactions. If we fall short of that mark, please let us know.
Please note, being a Registered Psychotherapist in Colorado does not meet ICEEFT’s requirement for “License to Practice” for Certified E.F.T. Therapist prerequisites. A mental health license is required to apply for Certification in addition to other requirements as outlined at the ICEEFT website.
